2nd Annual Children's Charity Ball
On February 11th, 2017, our 2nd Annual CAPA Children’s Charity Ball was a huge success! Almost 300 people gathered at Johnny T’s Next Door for an evening of cocktails, dinner, dancing, a silent auction, and a speaker. The theme of the evening was Roaring 20’s and everyone did a great job in dressing up! Over $15,000 was raised to support the efforts of CAPA’s programs that aim to prevent child abuse and neglect in Hillsdale County. The CAPA Children’s Charity Ball is held annually in memory of Trey Bowman in order to raise funds to support CAPA’s programs. Over $15,000 was raised this year!
Mary Fales gave a moving speech about the importance of safe sleep not only at home, but also at daycare. She recounted the loss of her son due to unsafe sleeping conditions at daycare when he was allowed to sleep in his car seat. When car seats are not at the right angle, a sleeping baby’s airway can easily be restricted when the head is not supported and leans forward. Mary Fales and her husband, Zack, have been working hard educate new parents about safe sleep and to make the rules concerning safe sleep for daycares more strictly enforced.
